DATE: Design, Automation, and Test in Europe, is the major global event in Europe for electronics industry.
DATE 2011 will be held in Grenoble, 14-18 March 2011, at Alpexpo.
The full technical programme is available at:
The program is clearly focused on industrial and academic needs. It consists of 57 technical sessions
and around 200 papers, plus an executive track featuring 3 sessions with industry-leading executives.
The program is completed by Tutorials given by world market-leaders and key scientists.
By featuring two Special Days focusing on topics of outstanding importance, such as Smart Devices
and Intelligent Energy, the DATE program will also provide important directions to key players in the
semiconductor industry and academic research. Each of the Special Days will have a full program of
keynotes, panels, tutorials and technical presentations.
Grenoble cluster shapes DATE 2011
DATE 2011 will take place at Alpexpo Alpes Congrès in Grenoble, France, from 14 to 18 March 2011.
Grenoble, located in the heart of the Alps and surrounded by the outstanding beauty of the
Belledonne, Chartreuse and Vercors massifs, is a key semiconductor site in Europe with more than
38,000 people in micro and nano technologies (24,000) and embedded software (14,000). There are
some 100 start-up companies located in the area in addition to 117 companies – 81% of which are
"We are delighted to be hosting DATE 2011 here in Grenoble," says Philippe Magarshack, Technology
R&D Group Vice-President and General Manager of Central CAD & Design Solutions at
STMicroelectronics. “The Grenoble area offers a world-class cooperative R&D cluster that brings
together silicon process technology, design automation and SOC design know-how, to enable state-of-
the-art low-power SoCs with high-performance, and leading-edge application-specific process
DATE 2011 will also benefit from the close link between research and industry established in the
Grenoble area. “LETI is proud to support DATE in Grenoble” said Laurent Malier CEO of LETI. “DATE
has strong reputation as a high quality conference and we expect that it will benefit from Grenoble’s
scientific community known for its concentrated high-level expertise and pioneering collaborative work
in micro- and nano-technologies, electronics, and software technologies with effective transfer of
technology between Industry, Research and Education”
One of the sessions not-to-be-missed will be the MENTOR GRAPHICS sponsored lunch session “From
Research to Market” on March 15, 2011. Laurent Malier, Philippe Magarshack, and Eric Selosse will
highlight the value of European Research to EDA and Semiconductors and speak about the benefits
of close cooperation in the EU. "Europe is a world leading source of research in electronics and EDA.
At MENTOR GRAPHICS we have significant and ongoing investment in local European R&D and
partnerships with leading institutions and companies. DATE provides a significant European forum for
both discussion and collaboration," says MENTOR GRAPHICS’ Vice President and General Manager Eric
DATE 2011 will also be the place where the leading European clusters Grenoble and Dresden will
start to substantially extend their cooperation, including semiconductor technologies as well as design
technologies. Silicon Saxony, the industry association located in the Dresden area with nearly 300
companies in microelectronics and other related sectors, will be represented at DATE 2011 by the
head of its Micro/Nanoelectronic devision, ZMDI’s Andeas Brüning, but also by exhibiting member
companies like GLOBALFOUNDRIES.
DATE 2011 exhibition is back to growth
The European economy is back to growth; during the downturn Europe’s microelectronics industry has
further sharpened the profile of its leading clusters like Grenoble and Dresden. Both of that will be
clearly visible at DATE 2011 Conference and Exhibition from 14-18 March in Grenoble, France.
The DATE 2011 Exhibition looks set to be both vibrant and varied. Due to the extremely high demand
an additional exhibition space has been created for the more than 70 expected exhibitors. Please click
here to be directed to the companies' profiles: http://www.date-conference.com/exhibitors-sponsors
The main exhibition will take place on the ground floor and adjacent to the main entrance and
registration desks. It is easily accessible from the conference rooms and catering will take place in and
around the exhibition hall. DATE also arranges a number of special events and features on the show
floor like an evening reception and an exhibition theatre of industry themed presentations.
In addition to the exhibition booths there is the European Research Projects/Clusters area which
provides a showcase for their work and results, and the European EDA Village provides a focus for
European EDA SMEs & Start ups. Also part of the exhibition is the University Booth showcasing
demonstrations of more than 50 EDA tools and hardware prototypes, to be presented by research
institutes from 15 different countries.
The entrance to the exhibition and to all sessions in the Exhibition Theatre is free, for conference
delegates as well as for exhibition visitors. For further information please visit http:///www.date-conference.com.
“GLOBALFOUNDRIES welcomes and supports the DATE 2011 in Grenoble as a visible signal for a
vital European microelectronics ecosystem,” says Gerd Teepe, Director Design Enablement Dresden
at GLOBALFOUNDRIES. “The partnership between the Dresden and the Grenoble microelectronic
cluster is very synergetic in nature and is developing quickly into the European breeding ground for
business in leading-edge semiconductors."
DATE 2011 begins on Monday 14 March with one full day of 11 tutorials given by speakers from world
leading EDA, semiconductor and system industries and ends on Friday 16 March with workshops on
themes ranging from embedded systems and SOC design to 3D integration, FPGA-based acceleration
and processor emulation.
